Urban reactivation – Villanueva de Cauche, Spain

The village of Villanueva de Cauche in Málaga was founded under the feudal system, as we can prove nowadays, based how it is structured. With a andalusian country house as the center of it, two streets guide the visitors from the entrance all along it through the farmer houses. The country house was home to the richest family of the town and held also a church. As we see on the diagrams (junior year 2009/2010) the whole housing area focuses on the farmhouse, which is currently in a bad condition, so the use we locate in it to regenerate Villanueva de Cauche should be in touch with the neighbors and work with them too.

After studying the situation of the region and because Málaga is a very touristic area, a hotel is combined with a culinary school as the regenerative element Villanueva needs. The hotel would be located in the country house, rebuilding it previously, and the culinary school (with dorms included) would be newly built right next to it. The uses are combined and so the students can apply their knowledge in the hotel’s kitchen and dinning room. The abandoned houses around the village would be offered as rooms for renting by the hotel, once renovated.
