Promenade – Malaga, Spain

The goal of this group project (junior year 2009/2010) was to create a city ordinance for the new Promenade of Malaga, to arrange how and where building and streets should be designed (heights, shapes, locations, elevations, urban furniture, materials…) The actual randomness needed a quick and efficient solution.

After studying the neighborhood, the diagrams above, a first proposal for the new constructions is provided. Skyscrapers are combined with linear housing blocks to release space for public activities, green areas… The roads are continued all the way into the beach and the sea through wood walkways.

In the section we noticed an underground level was created to make sure there are private open-air spaces for the housing areas and, this way, promote the community sense that we sometimes lose when we live in the suburbs of a big city. A second design, for the end of promenade which runs next to the Guadalhorce river, was suggested: in it, nature is not only present but the main characteristic.
